Sun 10 Jan   Birds by Boat

Departs: Itchenor       At: 10:00                    Fare: £7 / £3.50

Come onboard for a 1½ hour trip on the Solar Heritage. A guide will help you identify the birds that spend the winter in Chichester Harbour. All tickets to be booked in advance on 01243 513275.

 

Wed 13 Jan  Harbour Creekies: Birds of Prey & Owls        

10am / 1½ hours

An indoor session in the warmth and dry of our classroom, hearing about the birds of prey and owls we are most likely to see in and around Chichester Harbour. Fee £2 per person on the day to include refreshments.

Meet: Harbour Education Centre, Dell Quay. Roadside parking.A free return minibus trip sponsored by the Friends of Chichester Harbour is available from Chichester railway station for this event, please contact the Chichester Harbour Office for the pick up time and to book your seat at least 24 hours in advance. (No need to book if you do not want to use the minibus.)

 

Tue 19 Jan   Bird Walk: Langstone

10.50 for 11am start / 1½ hours     

A walk of up to 2 miles (3 km) along the shoreline, taking time to observe and identify the birds. Dress warmly and bring binoculars. No dogs please.

Meet: free public car park off A3023 on shoreline at Langstone next to the Ship pub near the road bridge on to Hayling Island.

Sat 30 Jan    Photography on Hayling

9.30am / 6 hours Be inspired by Chichester Harbour and the guidance of professional Iain McGowan to take great photographs. Beginners to experts welcome. Bring the camera equipment you already have and plenty of film if you aren’t digital. A tripod will be useful, if you don’t have one do try to borrow one for the day. Also, bring outdoor gear, wellies, and a packed lunch. Half day review session on Saturday 27 March. Safety briefing 9.30am prompt. Fee £25 for both sessions, including refreshments. BOOKING ESSENTIAL. 

Meet: Education Room upstairs at the Lifeboat Station, by kind permission of the RNLI. Off Bracklesham Road (entrance gate shared with Hayling Island Sailing Club), Hayling Island. Parking at lifeboat station.

 

Sun 31 Jan   Bird Walk: Nutbourne for World Wetlands Day

9.20 for 9.30am start / 1½ hoursA walk of up to 2 miles (3 km) along the harbour shoreline taking time to observe and identify the birds. Dress warmly and for muddy conditions and bring binoculars. No dogs please.

Meet: by footpath next to gate in Farm Lane (off A259, nearly opposite caravan dealers), Nutbourne. Roadside parking with respect for local residents please.

 

Sat 6 Feb                  Top Of the Harbour Walk - Emsworth to Chichester

9.20 for 9.30am start / up to 6 hours for the walk

A 10 mile (16km) walk from Emsworth and finishing by the Cathedral in Chichester, passing through Prinsted, Nutbourne, Chidham, Bosham and Fishbourne along the way. Bring a packed lunch and snacks. The walk will finish in Chichester City centre where there are cafes, shops, bus stops and a train station close by. For public transport information please see our website for links. 

Meet: The Square, Emsworth village centre. Train and bus stops close by. Parking in South Street and North Street car parks (pay and display).

Sat 13 Feb    Bird Walk North Common

9.20 for 9.30am start / 1½ hours

A short stroll around North Common taking time to look for and identify the harbour birds. Dress warmly and bring binoculars. No dogs please. 

Meet: in small free car park to North Common, Hayling island. From road bridge on to Hayling, take first left towards Northney Marina, follow road round past entrance to marina and hotel, shortly you will pass some houses on your left, look out for car park entrance (with height barrier) on your left.

 

Tue 16 Feb   Earth, Air and Water: Harbour Colours in Felt: Family Fun

10am / 3 hours

Firstly, a short stroll along the shoreline to collect some finds to inspire the colours for creating, back in the classroom, a work of art in wool felt. Wear old clothes and bring outdoor gear. Fee £3 per person to include materials and refreshments. BOOKING ESSENTIAL.

Meet: Harbour Education Centre, Dell Quay. Roadside parking.

 

Wed 17 Feb  Little Cockles: Harbour Babies

10am / 1½ hours

A fun session for families with children up to 5 years old. Today we will be thinking about the harbour’s babies including the birds and the trees. Some of this event will be outside so bring outdoor gear and a small bucket for any shoreline finds. Safety briefing 10am prompt.

Meet: Education Room upstairs at the Lifeboat Station, by kind permission of the RNLI. Off Bracklesham Road (entrance gate shared with Hayling Island Sailing Club), Hayling Island. Parking next to lifeboat station.

 

Wed 17 Feb  Solar Boat Trip: Harbour Nature

Departs: Itchenor       At: 14:30                    Fare: £7 / £3.50

Come onboard the Solar Heritage to learn more about this unique Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. All tickets to be booked in advance on 01243 513275.

 

Thur 18 Feb             Bird and Bat Boxes

10am / 1½ hours

As spring approaches we will be thinking of the birds beginning to nest in the gardens and the bats emerging from their winter hibernation roosts. Make a bat or bird box (or both) to put up in your garden. £4 per box made, payable on the day, but please phone the Harbour Office to reserve the number of kits you would like to make (it is possible to make two per person in the time allowed). Bring a hammer and a workmate if you have them, if not use ours. Safety briefing 10am prompt.

Sat 6 Mar                   Linear Walk East Head to Chichester              

9.50 for minibus at 10am / 6 hours

A 11 mile (18 km) linear walk along the shoreline of Chichester Harbour from East Head to Chichester, finishing in the city centre. Bring a packed lunch and snacks and be prepared for wet and muddy paths. Fee £3 per person. BOOKING ESSENTIAL. Meet: Chichester Railway station south side to take the Conservancy’s minibus to East Head. 

 

Wed 10 Mar  Harbour Creekies: Wildlife and Plants of Chichester Harbour

10am / 1½ hours

An indoor session in the warmth and dry of the Education Room at the LIfeboat Station on Hayling, hearing about the variety of wildlife and plants that can be found in the Chichester Harbour Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Fee £2 per person on the day (£1 to RNLI) to include refreshments. Meet: Education Room upstairs at the Lifeboat Station, by kind permission of the RNLI. Off Bracklesham Road (entrance gate shared with Hayling Island Sailing Club), Hayling Island. Parking next to lifeboat station. A free return minibus trip sponsored by the Friends of Chichester Harbour is available from Chichester and Havant railway stations for this event, please contact the Chichester Harbour Office to find out times and book your minibus seat at least 24 hours in advance. No need to book this event if you do not want to use the minibus.
