Sat 1 Dec                     Bird Watching at North Common

11 am / 1½ hrs

A short stroll around North Common taking time to look for and identify the harbour birds.  Dress warmly and bring binoculars. Meet: North Common car park, Hayling Island. Parking: small free car park, height barrier.

 

Wed 12 Dec     Bird Watching at Emsworth

10 am / 1½ hrs

A short stroll at Emsworth, taking time to look for and identify the harbour birds. Dress warmly and bring binoculars. Meet: on the shoreline at the end of Warblington Road, Emsworth Parking: roadside.

 

Fri 28 Dec                    End of Year Walk: Itchenor

10 am / 2 hrsA

4 mile walk of the Chichester Harbour shoreline and countryside at Itchenor. Perhaps stay afterwards for a drink at The Ship, the village pub.  Meet: Harbour Office, Itchenor. Parking: roadside.

Fri 11 Jan         Bird Watching: Langstone and Warblington Shoreline

10 am / 2 hrs

A stroll from Langstone towards Warblington to investigate which birds use this part of the harbour during winter. Bring binoculars. With Hampshire County Council's Countryside Rangers (tel. 02392 476411).  Meet: shoreline next to The Ship Inn, Langstone. Parking: free car park.

 

Sun 13 Jan       Photography Day

9.30 am - 3.30 pm / £24 (includes review session)

Be inspired by the harbour environment and guidance of professional, Iain McGowan, to take great photos. Beginners to experts welcome. Bring the camera equipment you already have and plenty of film if you aren't digital. Booking essential. Also bring outdoor gear, wellies, and a packed lunch (or buy lunch in the pub nearby). Meet: Harbour Education Centre, Dell Quay.

 

Sat 19 Jan        Oystercatchers' Family Fun: Romans in the Harbour

10 am / 2 hrs / £2 (includes materials and refreshments)

A fun session for families with children 5-12 years, with a harbour theme. Today we will be learning about the harbour back in the Roman times. We are pleased to welcome Suzanne Evans from Fishbourne Roman Palace who will be leading this session. Wear old clothes and gear for outdoors.  Meet: Harbour Education Centre, Dell Quay.

 

Sat 19 Jan        Bird Watching at Cobnor Point

1.30 pm / 1½ hours

A short stroll around Cobnor Point on Chidham, taking time to look for and identify the harbour birds. Dress warmly and bring binoculars. Meet: in the private parking area next to the disabled parking spaces at Cobnor Point. Take road onto Chidham, at southern point of this road, take private road to Cobnor (including Cobnor Activities Centre), drive down and past turning to Activities Centre, the parking area is in the next field on the left and will be signposted for this walk. Wed 23 Jan      Harbour Creekies: New Footage of Harbour Marine Life

10.30 am / 1½ hrs / £2 (includes refreshments)

An opportunity to meet in the warmth and dry of our classroom and learn more about Chichester Harbour. Today we will have a presentation by Nicky Horter, Chichester Harbour's AONB Officer on the marine life of the harbour and a chance to view the new video footage taken by divers last year through a project funded by the Heritage Lottery.  Meet: Harbour Education Centre, Dell Quay. Transport: a return minibus trip from Chichester Railway Station at 10am is provided free of charge (sponsored by the Friends of Chichester Harbour). Seats must be booked at least 24 hours in advance on 01243 512301.

Dress warmly and for muddy conditions and bring binoculars. Meet: by footpath next to gate in Farm Lane (off A259, nearly opposite caravan dealers), Nutbourne. Roadside parking.

Sat 16 Feb       Oystercatchers' Family Fun: Sea Shanties10 am / 2 hrs / £2 per person (includes materials and refreshments)A fun session for families with children aged 5-12 years old, with a harbour theme. Today we will hear about the origins of sea shanties sung by sailors recruited to work on ships in years gone by and also have a go at working models of ships' machinery such as capstans. We will be singing a few sea shanties ourselves.  Meet: Harbour Education Centre, Dell Quay. Parking: roadside.

Mon 18 Feb      Little Cockles: Smugglers' Puppet Show10 am / 1½ hrs / £5 per family (includes materials and refreshments)A fun indoor session for families with children aged up to 5 years. Today we will be in the warmth and dry of our classroom to watch a puppet show based on a harbour smuggling story, and then make a finger puppet or two to take home.Meet: Harbour Education Centre, Dell Quay. Parking: roadside.

Wed 20 Feb     Bird Box Making10 am / 1½ hrs / £4 per boxAs spring approaches we will be thinking of the birds beginning to nest in the gardens and countryside around us. Make a bird box (or two) to put up in your garden or to donate to our woodland at Salterns Copse. Phone the Harbour Office beforehand on 01243 512301 to reserve the number of kits you would like to make (it is possible to make two per person in the time). Bring a hammer and a workmate if you have them, if not use ours. Meet: Harbour Education Centre, Dell Quay. Parking: roadside.

Sat 23 Feb       Two Views and a Café - Sandy Point and Emsworth9.30 am / 3 hrs / £5From Havant we take our minibus to Eastoke to take a stroll along the shoreline at the entrance to Chichester Harbour and then go to Emsworth to view the harbour from the sea wall and enjoy an opportunity for a coffee at one of the cafes.  Meet: Havant Railway Station by the cycle parking canopy.
