The aim of the liveability project for Emsworth is to make improvements to crossing the A259 and reducing the effects that the road has on the community.

Subway

Subway art work Emsworth

Artwork for the subway are all now printed at full size and laminated, installation to start 31/07/06 and will take approximately 3 weeks.

Steps on path replaced with an anti slip ramp to facilitate disabled access

Brickwork repairs complete

All brickwork has been cleaned

All funded by HCC

Mirrors installed

New handrails in place – some quality issues to be resolved

New drainage channels installed

Railings

Erected quality problems currently being resolved by contractor

Plaques have been delivered will be fixed to the railings once problems have been resolved should be complete by end of August.

3 lighting columns installed still to be connected

Improvements to crossing North Street

The crossing was widened to provide a safe refuge in the centre of the road, with additional tactile paving to aid partially sighted pedestrians. Drop kerbs were re-aligned to provide a straight crossing point.

Order placed in June but 12 week minimum before installed

Note: Some damage to subway wall and railings following a road accident, HCC to fund repairs which will be carried out shortly.

Budget

Current spend Actual/Commitments £188, 000, with the small amount of additional work left, anticipated that the final spend will be close to the allocated £200,000.
