Restoration of The Terror
The emsworth Heritage Project
Emsworth's last
remaining oyster boat now owned by
The
Chichester Harbour Conservancy ha been restored at
Dolphin Quay Boat Yard.
"Work is
progressing on Terror, the Victorian oyster boat that is being restored
at Dolphin Quay Boatyard. When we took-over ownership of the boat,-she
was without any sails or rigging. This posed a problem and we needed to
discover exactly how she was originally rigged.
At the 2006 Emsworth Food Festival, Ron Spencer approached us with some
photographs of the Terror sailing in the 1960s. These have proved to be
an invaluable source of information. Our surveyor has studied them
closely so that we can reproduce the sails and rigging as near to the
original as possible."

The Khao Lak Community
Appeal
£1,000,000 raised to
date
The Khao Lak Community Appeal was launched
in January 2005 in memory of six local residents who died in the tragic
events of the Tsunami on Boxing Day 26th December 2004. They were
staying in Khao Lak, the most devastated area in Thailand. The charity
is also in recognition of the fantastic people of Khao Lak, who did so
much to help survivors, having lost virtually everything themselves.

The appeal aims to raise £1million to build new and improve existing
facilities at the local school and for community use as well. It will
also support eleven young children throughout their schooling, all of
whom lost their mothers in the wave.

Friends of the Mill Pond

A
new conservation group, the 'Friends of the Mill Pond' is
being formed in Emsworth. The objective is to keep it free of rubbish
and looking its best for the enjoyment of residents and visitors and the
safety of its bird population.
A walk around the Mill Pond brings a great deal of pleasure and
enjoyment, but the rubbish that accumulates around the margins
frequently spoils this. Havant Borough Council clean the pond tour times
a year and whilst they generally do a good job it requires more frequent
attention.
The "Friends of the Mill Pond" group is being formed to undertake this
and other work associated with keeping this wonderful part of our
coastal scenery in good visual condition. The 'Friends' will also be
able to keep a close eye on the pond and it's environs to ensure it gets
the support and maintenance it needs.
Councillor Brendan Gibb-Gray has arranged with the council to provide
the necessary, tools to enable volunteers to collect and put the rubbish
into sacks, that the council will collect when filled. This work will be
done from "dry land" around the pond and will not require anybody going
into the water!
We hope that many people will feel able to support this community
project. Whilst there is a need for people able to undertake physical
activity, there are many other ways of helping and all residents are
welcome to join.
John Mant will be coordinating the formation of the group. If you are
interested in assisting with this project or just finding out a little
more about it please contact him on 01243 373987, email
