Emsworth Safer Neighbourhoods main three priorities are:

  • Anti-social behaviour in Emsworth village centre.  Regular patrols on foot and cycle, particularly in the evenings.  These are carried out by the Emsworth Safer Neighbourhood Team, and Special Constables, both in uniform and plain clothes.  Regular licensing checks, including targeting of off license premises for selling to underage drinkers, and persons purchasing alcohol on their behalf.  Recently, the Emsworth Residents Association met with police and local publicans, to discuss concerns over anti-social behaviour (ASB) and noise levels.  This liaison will continue to ensure an understanding between all parties, and look to possible solutions / ways of reducing ASB.
  • Anti-social behaviour and criminal damage at Emsworth Recreation Ground including Skate Park and Southleigh Park, most evenings, especially Fridays and Saturdays between 5pm and 8pm hours. Targeting the underage drinkers and seizing alcohol found.  Conducting regular plain clothes and high visibility patrols, and dealing robustly with persons committing anti-social, criminal and public disorder offences.
  • Targetting theft from motor vehicles. Emsworth Safer Neighbourhood Team are targetting vehicle crime in the area by increasing cycle patrols and plain clothes patrols at key times. Liaison is also continuing through Neighbourhood Watch so as to give up to dtae crime prevention information to residents. Close liaison also takes place with West Sussex Police so as to share information with a view reducing vehicle crime even further.

The long term aims of Emsworth Safer Neighbourhoods Team are as follows:

  • To reduce criminal damage, violent crime, anti social behaviour and  youth nuisance.
  • Provide public reassurance through high visibility patrolling on foot and cycles.
  • Carry out regular licensing visits and deal robustly with any breaches.  Seize alcohol from underage drinkers, and target the premises selling to the youths.  Make good use of fixed penalty tickets for minor criminal and public disorder offences, and cycling on the pavement.
  • Promote the use of ABA (anti social behaviour agreements) process to work with young offenders and other agencies.
  • Increase and build communication with the local community by attending the community board, resident and other community based meetings and Neighbourhood Watch meetings to discuss local issues and gather local intelligence.
  • Attend cross border meetings, and maintain a good level of communication with Sussex colleagues, to assist in the prevention and detection of crime.
