Emsworth Parish Council decision to be reviewed
On 23 July, Havant
Borough Council announced it had formally voted to create
Emsworth Parish Council, following the Community Governance
Review (CGR)
and strong public support. The decision was based on clear
evidence that both statutory tests were met: Emsworth has a
strong and distinct community identity, and residents
demonstrated the capacity to deliver effective, convenient
local governance.
However, on 23 September the Leader
of HBC stated that the decision to create new parish
councils must now be reconsidered by Full Council. This
follows the Government’s announcement that it will not
proceed with Local Government Reform in Hampshire. Does this
change the strong evidence presented during the CGR?
Celebrating a New Chapter for
Emsworth Town 7 pm to 9 pm Thursday 10 December,
Emsworth Community Centre (followed by wine and cheese)
Subject to final ratification by Havant Borough Full
Council, Emsworth is set to have its very own Parish Council
— a milestone in strengthening local democracy and giving
residents a stronger voice in shaping our community’s
future.
Join us for a relaxed and
celebratory evening as we mark this important moment for
Emsworth. There will be plenty of conversation and a
hands-on workshop exploring the exciting activities, powers
and opportunities a parish council can bring — from
community projects and youth initiatives to heritage,
environment, events and local services. Wine and cheese will
be served.
This is a really important event – the start
of a new chapter. Whether you’re curious, enthusiastic, have
ideas and energy to bring, this is a chance to start working
together on how a parish council can help Emsworth thrive —
and how residents can get engaged and shape its future from
day one. Come and be part of the conversation. Emsworth’s
next chapter starts with all of us.
